We crafted a lighting experience that would not only support but amplify the narrative of each installation, transforming light into an active storytelling tool. Here’s how we approached the three key environments we were entrusted with:

Opposites United – A Minimal Dialogue in Light

In the main exhibit space themed Opposites United, our lighting design followed a minimal and elegant philosophy. We used linear LED lights to accentuate key architectural and conceptual elements without overwhelming the viewer. Clean lines of light cut through the space with precision, guiding the eye and creating subtle contrasts between form and shadow.

The core message of the installation: the harmony of contradiction. Just as the exhibit sought to reconcile opposing ideas, our lighting revealed the beauty in restraint, letting space and silence do the heavy lifting.

The Cave – An Ancient Future Glows Red

For The Cave, the evocative installation by A.A. Murakami, we turned to a warmer, more immersive palette. The space was bathed in a flood of soft, red reflected light, emanating from a uniformly illuminated stone wall. This subtle wash of colour set the tone—almost like the glow of a primordial hearth, echoing the installation’s tension between ancient tools and futuristic robotics.

By avoiding direct lighting and instead allowing the backlight to envelop the room, we created an atmosphere that felt timeless, sacred, and slightly surreal. The red hue was emotional, anchoring visitors in a meditative moment of creative reflection.

Beyond the Horizon – Following the Path of the Bubble

In Beyond the Horizon, another A.A. Murakami creation, we embraced movement and unpredictability. At the centre of the installation were delicate floating bubbles—ephemeral, elegant, and completely erratic. We designed a system of automated spotlights capable of tracking each bubble in real-time, treating them like stars on their own private runway.

This required an advanced level of lighting automation, allowing the system to react dynamically as each bubble took its path. Every bubble became a performer, every flicker of light a choreography. It was a dance between technology and nature, echoing the exhibition’s spirit of creative synthesis.

Lighting as Storytelling

At the core of our lighting design for this project was a shared belief with Kia: that technology, when used poetically, can deepen our perception of the world. We approached each space as a distinct chapter in a larger story, adapting our techniques to the emotional and symbolic tone of the environments.
